His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, stressed that the cultural work requires perseverance, patience and diligence, and this work must be built on a solid base to achieve sustainability.
This came during a meeting with the chief editors of newspapers, and a number of local and international media institutions, in line with His Highness visits to the pavilion of the emirate of Sharjah that is represented by Sharjah Book Authority at the 48th edition of London Book Fair.
Sharjah World Book Capital 2019
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah pointed out that the numerous attempts on applying for the title of “World Book Capital”, where they had to request foe it more than eight times until Sharjah was awarded with the title, approves that the cultural work must not be limited and requires a determination.
Sharjah and culture
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah also addressed that the efforts of the emirate of Sharjah in serving culture and intellectuals that lasted for more than 40 years through several institutions, and took care of a various forms of culture and established events and organised festivals for them internally and externally, in an oriental approach based on Arabism, and Islamism.
His Highness also pointed out that Sharjah achievements in the field of culture, reflects on the Arab world, which fulfill the lofty message of culture that required a group work to achieve humanitarian in the first place.
Culture in the Arab World
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah called on taking great care over the ministries of culture, by choosing the educated minister who is aware of the needs of culture. He also stressed that the culture must be supported and allocated an appropriate budget. His Highness praised the UAE culture, which is taking a steady steps towards the right direction, by providing a human cadres and advanced urban facilities that contributed in the advancement of cultural continuity.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah also addressed a number of geographical and historical topics, which are the specialty of His Highness, pointing out the importance of geography and history in understanding the customs, cultures and traditions of the peoples that are vary in their beliefs, ideas and lifestyles.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah concluded by calling upon the writers in general and journalists in particular to take care of the selection of the topics they address, where their writings should be based on documented scientific facts and there is no objection on expressing opinions, which must not be impose on the reader as if it is the absolute truth.
