120 unmarried brothers sleep with the wives of the nairs and consider it a great honour. As they are Brahmins, no woman will refuse them, but they cannot sleep with a woman who is older than they are. They live in their houses and cities and they act as priests in the temples, and they go there to pray at certain times of day and hold their religious ceremonies; the main doors of these temples face West like ours and each has three doors before the main entrance. Outside the church, there is a stone which is as tall as a man, with three steps next to it, and facing it, in the middle of the church, there is a small chapel which is very dark within, which houses a gold; silver or metal idol and where three oil-lamps are always burning. No-one may enter except the priest, with large bunches offlowers, fragrant grass and rose-water. He takes the idol out once in the morning and once in the afternoon, and he washes thoroughly beforehand and he holds it above his head with its face facing backwards and walks around with it in a great procession. Many instruments are played and certain Brahmin wives walk ahead of it with burning oil-lamps, and whenever they reach the main door, they put it on those stones and worship it and hold many ceremonies. After they have walked round the church three times, they follow the same order to put it back in the chapel. These temples are surrounded by walls, within which they walk around in a procession. And when they do, they carry parasols, out of ceremony. The stone standing by the door where they put their offerings is washed twice a day. Twice a day, they hold a ceremony whereby they put boiled rice for the crows to eat on it. The Brahmins greatly respect the number three in triune. They believe that God is three people in one and that all their prayers are ceremonials, and they worship the Trinity, and they almost want to represent it.
