44 Beyond which is a village called Madehua or Madegua, after which one comes to another town known as Khor Fakan. There are many farms and estates around these mainland villages, which belong to respectable Moors of Hormuz. Here they come in the Summer to relax and harvest the early crops and fruit. Beyond Khor Fakan, further up, lies another place called Julfar. Here live many respectable people: sailors and principal merchants. They fish for seed-pearls and large pearls here, which traders from Hormuz come to buy and take to India and many other parts. This business located here brings a lot of money in for the King of Hormuz, as well as the other places. Heading along the coast past these villages of Khor Fakan, one comes to others, one of which is called Ras-al Khaima, which is a very large place, and beyond this one, there is another with a fortress called Kalba, which the King of Hormuz keeps in order to defend his lands. This is beacuse in the hinterland of all these villages, there are Moors who live like desert Arabs, who are governed by Sheiks. These rulers sometime advance on these villages and wage war on them. These people often rise against their king. The Kingdom of Hormuz in Persia Along the coast of Persia, the said king of Hormuz has a number of villages and islands that are inhabited. I shall name each one of them and then I will describe the island of Hormuz, its city, the abovesaid king and his customs. Heading along the coast of Persia towards India, the king of Hormuz has a fine place called Basido and is inhabited by very respectable people. Here he has his governors who bring him a lot of money.
