Then, seeing that the captain of thefleet still wanted to wage war, they agreed to give him the fort on the condition that they would leave the city and island immediately with their wives, children, and belongings. All those who were the dead governors’ relatives or brothers were exiled. This was done straight away and the captain of the fleet headed straight for the palace and fortress with great pomp and triumph. He was accompanied by many Portuguese and the Kings’ people.
