Al-Ḥīra Assembly

100 Hold, for thy ransom let all peoples be laid, Thy life prolonged by wealth and offspring’s aid. Cast me not into depths beyond my stead, Nor lead my hopes of thy mercy to dread. Though foes envious in thy support do rally and unite, In such a course against me, find not their spite. Notable 2: “A few days back, Al-Nābighah sent me this poem.” He recites: In lands where valleys in confluence meet, The face of nature shifts ‘neath time’s fleet feet. Through seasons’ dance, from summer’s warmth to spring’s embrace, The grazing grounds too change their verdant face.
