Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir, inquiring: “Is Al-Munakhkhal al-Yashkurī present in the waiting hall?” ʿIkab confirms: “Indeed, he is, my Lord!” Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir decrees: “Escort him to the prison. Subject him to coercion until he admits the verse he recited was of his own making, not Al-Nābighah’s. I have been apprised of such deceit.” Commotion is heard from the waiting room. Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir calls out: “O, ʿEṣām! O, ʿEṣām!” Al-Ḥājib ʿEṣām enters promptly.
