103 Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir questions: “What is the source of this clamor?” Al-Ḥājib ʿEṣām reports: “It is Saʿd Qarqara, my Lord! He boasts of hunting a zebra, but there are those who dispute his claim.” Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir commands: “Bring them before me, all of them!” Saʿd Qarqara, of slender build, enters, proclaiming: “It was indeed I who hunted the zebra.” Following him, three men, credited with the hunt, enter. Zebra Hunter, clarifying: “Qarqara accompanied us during the hunt, yet in fear, he concealed himself in a thicket. As fate would have it, the fleeing zebra took refuge in the very same bush, leading us to capture both the beast and Qarqara.”
