106 Al-Ḥājib ʿEṣām ushers everyone from the Assembly. ʿIkab makes his entrance, announcing gravely: “My Lord! Al-Munakhkhal al-Yashkurī has perished!” Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir, taken aback, inquires: “How did this happen?” ʿIkab explains: “During his flogging, I stumbled and fell upon him, crushing his ribs being. He died almost immediately.” Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir, somberly: “Well, he met the fate he wrought.” Summoning his aid, Al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Munẓir calls: “ʿEṣām … ʿEṣām!” Al-Ḥājib ʿEṣām enters promptly, responding: “Yes, my Lord!”
