96 The Viceroy in India also issued the following decree: “I, Rui Lourenco de Tavora, member of His Majesty’s StateCouncil, General Commander in India, etc., inform all those who view this judicial order that within the parameters of the aforementioned petition from King Muhammad Shah of Hormuz, and which is attached with this letter and the complaint therein, I direct that it is necessary that the Hormuz fortress commander and his allies keep up the manifestations of reverence and respect stated in the petition as exactly as used to be the case with the former commanders in the occasions of His Majesty visiting the said fortress. Any breach of this tradition shall result in the reprimanding of the commander in the residency report and the prescribed fine will be collected. Thus, I order that it is necessary to consider and respect the agreement signed with His Majesty in accordance with the desire and order of His Majesty. As for the manifestations of reverence
