A rumour spread among the people of Kilwa that the Portuguese commander was planning with Hāj Muhammad Ruknuddin ad-Dābūli, to bring devastation and ruin to Kilwa. Consequently, as soon as Hāj Muhammad Ruknuddin ad-Dābūli returned home, Emir Ibrāhīm put him under house arrest with maximum security around his residence. In 908 AH (1502 CE), a Portuguese eet comprising several ships arrived to Kilwa. On board was Dom Francisco De Almeida, the Viceroy of the Portuguese territories in India.
