_ 115 _ Your Worship is well aware that I held it as a trouble to have me sent to this land; I acknowledge to Your Worship that after finding myself in it on account of what I saw and comprehended that was due to the service of the King our Lord, I felt he had done me in so doing, a great and signal favour, and I hold it still to be greater since this fleet beseiged this fortress, and I found myself in it, for albeit that it was not for many days, yet the danger and labours were not few, nor small which fell to my lot, as Your Worship will learn in good time. I desired Your Worship as a favour upon writing to His Highness, to mention me, and speak what in reason Your Worship may deem right, reminding him that for thirty nine years have I served in these parts, His Highness, without any favour having been shown me, but troubles and the loss of my wealth, which I no longer possess, and I suffer much misery and necessities with ten sons and daughters, as I have, and many other labours which I hope Your Worship will release me from and afford me rest. By this letter I send a note of all the things which this fortress has need of, and is due to be provided, because the times are not all alike and they are not to be had, and if any can be had, it is at a great cost so that al stick becomes gold, and of the same tenour I send another sheet to the Comptroller of the Exchequer.
