_ 134 _ left, Father Superior Gaspar started to build the College on the site of the mosque(A), which belonged to the Yogi, where he educated ten or twelve Brothers in spiritual matters. His approach with them, both in prayer and recollection, has been described by the holy Fathers who lived in the hermitage(B). Five died on him before he left for India(C), because the land was hotter in summer than all others that the sun heats. Most of them had the fine qualities needed to become outstanding servants of God, but the Lord was served by forestalling them and perfecting them in the land of the living. On several occasions, the Father had moved the King of Ormuz to conversion, but through the efforts of those of his council he ceased to be so. Nevertheless, the Father still had hopes that he would convert(D). Despite being an infidel, he wanted to give an annuity to the College and often gave alms to the Portuguese because of his great love for the Father.
