In one of them is a son of his, who is said to have been taken by His Highness's men. The Pasha of Cairo, in view of the bad news he brought, ordered him to be put in prison in Cairo, and it is believed that he will send him to Constantinople. You are to find out if this information is correct and if what is said to have happened did happen, the way it occurred, the time, place and whereabouts in which it occurred, which of His Highness's fleets was the one which caused the damage, and who is said to be its captain, and how this fleet came to be damaged. If you find out that this news is correct and agrees with the information His Highness has, and that there was in it nothing on which to cast doubt, you are to attempt to discover in detail what happened, and any other details, and you are to turn back and come with all haste. If you find that the information is not certain, or nothing is known or said about it, you are to continue on your way and find out where the said captain is, how many galleys
