The Dominicans have a monastery on the island and the Franciscans another with many religious and great virtue. One of them is a preacher. He enjoys great goodwill among the people. While not being very learned, he is a good confessor. His name is Antonio Vaz and he was received here in India. He must be nearly thirty. The other of the same age is called Francisco Lopes. They are taking a Brother, whose name is Francisco Durão, with them. They have made great progress in the galleys and galleons, where [267v] they are quartered, according to what the son of the Viceroy, Dom Fernando, wrote to me (B), They confess, preach and show the other practices of virtue, and those that charity teaches in these parts.
