_ 247 _ Dom Diogo continued his pursuit of the galleys for seven successive days without being able to catch them up until, stuck between the islands and the mainland, they entered the mouth of the Basra Strait and travelled inland along the river Euphrates where, when Dom Diogo saw that all of them were already safe because his galleons where unable to enter there, he returned with his entire fleet to Mussendum, where he decided to wait until the westerlies died down and he went on to Ormuz to arrange his departure for India, which he had to do according to his standing orders.
