In this house I have a little oratory in which I hear confessions and say Mass and teach fifty local children to read and write so that they can be taught prayers and virtues and good habits. By the Lord's grace much good fruit comes of this, because at nightfall I go out with them to pray for souls in purgatory, ringing a little bell. We all go in procession reciting litanies and invoking the saints, and at four points I commend them and those who are in mortal sin,(A) and at the end we all say 'Lord God, have mercy on us'. 7. On Wednesdays I say Mass to the sick in the hospital and these children, and I hear confessions from the sick who are ready to confess on that day, and every day when they need it, and those in the city and outside it; and this keeps me very busy. Every Friday I go in procession with these children and many others who accompany us, to say Mass at São Paulo for the confraternity, and to preach, and all the people come with much devotion.
