The Portuguese in the Sea of Oman

_ 398 _ In the same year (1560) His Excellency the Ambassador in Rome Lorenzo Perez de Tavora sent a letter to D. Sebastiao, Rome, on the 15th of March 1560, mentioning that the Turkish fleet was in Suez:(45) Sir, On the sixth of the present month, I despatched a courier to Your Highness by whom I informed you that I had heard through Venice and Messina that last December, the Pasha had gone from Cairo to Suez to prepare twenty-five galleys which were in port there, to go to Ormuz this year. I wrote at length about this, and I trust that the courier arrived safely and caught the ships before they left for India. I think it will be attended to as necessary and will say no more about this at present. I am writing this letter in accordance with the means (45) Document no. and reference.
