The Portuguese in the Sea of Oman

_ 510 _ May Our Lord complete everything in His service and give Your Highness always many and fresh occasions to increase and extend his authority and reputation by virtuous and famous deeds. May your life and royal estate by preserved and increased for many years, just as your loyal vassal’s desire. Having dealt with the subject of the East in this letter, it seems appropriate to leave the subject of the west for others. In order not to spoil the order, I also mention in this one that His Holiness is pressing me to afford him a means, through Your Highness, whereby the Sophy may share intelligence with the Holiness, to the prejudice, of the Turk as his death approaches. As I wrote at greater length on 19th of last month, in letter number 5, I am putting off His Holiness by saying that I have written to Your Highness, but he wants me to write again. I must say that, I do not think Your Highness can avoid writing something in reply to this, during the period until the departure of the naus [sic], and meanwhile Your Highness will be able to fulfil these wishes of His Highness as you think fit.
