Half a league beyond there we ascended a mountain called Mont Aiguebelette by partly-paved roads which were very rough. Before the mountain, there is a lake called Le Bourget, which joins the Rhône, from which barges go loaded for Milan. Here in Aiguebelette, there is another lake called Guiers, which runs into the Rhone near Lyons before the Bourget enters the Rhône. On the next day, we broke our fast in a small village called Pont de Bon Voisin, four leagues from Chambéry. The River Guiers flows into the aforementioned lakes. This river divides Savoy from the Dauphiné in France, which lies to its west. We dined in a small village called La Verpillière, seven leagues from Pont de Bon Voisin. We travelled over plains covered with walnut-trees, vines and farms and slept on 17 July in Lyon in France, which is five leagues from La Verpillière.
