From this city go to Jahrom, a large town two days journey away, and from there to Taduan, another large place, which has a broad river which comes from the plain of Shiraz. The whole province of Shiraz, which is large, is called Fars, from which it and the people take their name, and which now through a corruption of the word are called Persia and Persians. From this great and ancient city of Shiraz, the capital of Fars, and go to another which is called Isfahan, the capital of another province, which was in the past the capital of another kingdom. It is a very large city, well supplied with all provisions, fruits, meats and rice, which go from here to every place in Persia. It is ten days’ journey away, through lands and villasges inhabited by Persian people. In the past the lord of this province was a king called Hakan Pasha and Hozun Hakan. means long, as he was very tall in stature.
