The old woman replied that he was alive and was in the very well where the king, his brother had had him thrown. He then begged her to go and show him. They both went, and he talked to the blessed saint and told him that if he could rescue his brother, he should do so. He the king’s brother promised to do all he asked, and then sent for a basket, which he threw down for the saint to get out. The blessed saint first filled it with the leeches and snakes which were there with him, and which had helped him to pray daily to Our Lord. Then he came out and told the king’s brother that first it behoved him to become a Christian with his people, so that he could work for that true God, Lord and Maker of all things.
