_ 463 _ C.33 Concerning expenditure on the church and hospital, and other matters raised below. Item: The administrator of the hospital, who was appointed by command of my Lord the King, will receive a salary of one hundred thousand reis per year. C. 34 Item: The vicar of that fortress will receive thirty-four thousand reis per year as salary and maintenance. C. 35 Item: Four beneficed clergy of the church of that fortress will receive eighty-four thousand reis per year, at the rate of twenty-one thousand reis each per year as salary and maintenance. C. 36 Item: The treasurer of the church will receive maintenance of seven thousand two hundred reis per year at the rate of six hundred reis per month for his labour, although in the previous standing orders it was stated that he would receive thirteen thousand two hundred reis, at one thousand one hundred reis. This is because none of hospital is of 6 June 1516. In the rising of 1521-22 against the Portuguese, the Moors occupied the hospital, fortifying themselves within its walls the better to attack the fortress, and as a result the building suffered considerable damage.
