The money is to be given to the Superintendent and Brothers of the Misericórdia of the fortress as administrators of the hospital as they ask for it, up to the stated amount per year, and the factor will duly collect the receipts for his accounts. The Superintendent and Brothers will be informed that they are not to increase salaries, rations or accommodation for the officials of the hospital, which are to remain the same, nor are they to pay or advance money to any person from outside, however needy they may be, because they may not do so, and if such increases or advances have been made, they are not to be used. If it so happens that for some necessity or unforeseen event the stated sum is not sufficient for the whole year, by agreement between yourself as captain, with the chief treasury officer, if there is one, and the Superintendent and Brothers the shortfall will be made up, as I trust them and their goodness and virtue not to make a request if it is not essential, since they undertake this in the service of Our Lord.
