_ 473 _ C. 57 Item: The shabandar(A) of Ormuz receives two leques per year for payment to the terradas which unload cargoes from the carracks and ships which bring them, and also the porters who serve in the customs house. This sum will continue to be given to him and is worth twenty-seven thousand nine hundred and seven reis. The factor will obtain a receipt from him for his accounts. C. 58 Item: I am informed that the post of shabandar was granted a salary of six hundred thousand reis. I direct that no one appointed to hold this post is to receive this salary at any time. C. 59 Item: The post of alcaide do mar included ten soldiers to escort him. I direct that there should be no such post, as stated above, and so there will be no such soldiers, and they will not be paid for serving in any other way. C. 60 Item: In the previous standing orders, it was stated that an additional two hundred and five leques three azars (A) Shabandar (from Persian Shah-bandar: harbour-master; chief customs officer. Cf. J.de Barros: “the shabandar, who is in charge of sea matters”. (Dec. III, Bk.VII, p.126).
