_ 487 _ In the same year (1568) Father Goncalo Alvarez (Society of Jesus), a visitor to the diocese, sent a letter to Father Francisco Borja (Society of Jesus), Superior General of the Jesuit Society in Rome, Goa, in December 1568, mentioning the spread of vice in Ormuz:(37) As regards the Fathers of the Society residing in Ormuz, when I arrived, they were no longer living there. By a clever stratagem to enable them to return without causing offence, the Father Provincial had instructed them to come, the occasion being a Provincial Council which was set up here in Goa last year.
