_ 78 _ As a slave of Your Highness, I have written in respect to this peace what I judged about it, which the Turk had asked for these two straits of Bacora and Mequa, I now do so again and I say that I remit myself to the Council of Your Highness where more certainly it is given of which I never (?) could imagine, but taking into consideration what I have written of these things of Bagora, and the peace treaties that have been made between the Turk and the Catamaz. It seemed that whereas they demanded it consenting to the Clauses which the Viceroy (May he be in glory) had set down, or which were added, that what they asked should be accepted because India labors under such continued trials that all good arrangements should be made which the enemies whose friendship we do not trust but exercise all the more vigilance over them. I myself will not, despite the peace, desist from bringing the scouts I do but rather will exercise a redoubled vigilance, since I judge by so doing to serve Your Highness and what news they bring I will forward them to the Governors and Viceroys, also when able, send them on to Your Highness, for all my honor is dedicated to the service and fulfillment of this charge which I am favored with: Ceylon is at war on the part of Malabar.
