_ 100 _ When the Chief Justices are absent or prevented in some way from carrying out their duties in person, they may nominate a person to serve in their place, and if they die after making such a nomination the person appointed shall serve until the Viceroy appoints a replacement. If they die without making a nomination, the factor of the treasury shall do so. These persons will serve until the Viceroy makes an appointment as aforesaid, the Viceroy shall choose a person of learning and rank appropriate to the said post, and these persons shall observe these instructions to the letter. It is likewise my wish that with regard to suspicions which may be raised against the said Chief Justices in the suits and actions they judge in the exercise of their office, they should observe the following procedure: as soon as a suspicion is raised against him by any person of whatever standing or rank, the Chief Justice shall not involve himself with whoever is raising it, but send the documents relating to the suspicion to the most senior judge ordinary, or to the one who has served as such in the past year, and this judge shall determine what is to be done in the cause of justice.
