This is easily understood because there are no fine buildings or spectacular monuments there comparable with the churches in Goa or the Fortress of Jesus at Mombasa, which are excellent photographic subjects. Indeed the only place considered worth a half-page illustration in the “Grande Enciclopédia Portuguesa e Brasileira” the fortress of Ormuz is represented by a photograph of somewhere quite different which was not definitely Portuguese. Nonetheless, for two hundred and fifty years a quarter of a millennium Portugal exercised great influence and power in this area.
