_ 138 _ Alvarez Madeira, acting commander of the fortress of Ormuz, by Frei Domingos, prior of the monastery of Nossa Senhora da Graça, by His Excellency Simão da Costa, Overseer of the Treasury, by António de Morais, factor, and by the other officers who, being the most important people in this kingdom, must sign in their own names and on behalf of all the people whether present or not on the occasion. In addition, King Farracoxá declared that he acknowledged that he owned and held the Kingdom of Ormuz due to the clemency of King D. Henrique, of glorious memory, to whom he had in the past paid homage which he would now repeat in favour of the Catholic King D. Filipe, by the grace of God, true king and successor to the realms and domains of Portugal: whom he also acknowledged as his lord, would obey, and would honour him or whoever represented him; and would continue to live, as up to now, in accordance with the contracts and orders of the governors and viceroys of India, in the name of the kings of Portugal, which always and in all respects he would acknowledge as valid and would approve and ratify. He also promised that in no circumstances whatsoever would he transgress their orders, but rather that he would strictly comply with all their contents or do even more, if that were possible or wise.
