The Offices of Mozambique Thy factor and Alcaide Môr of Mozambique is a far b’èr office than that of the factor of Sofala, and it is given to noblemen and royal servants of long standing; the salary is one hundred thousand reis a year, and it brings in seven or eight thousand cruzados net in three years. The clerk of this factory is a good office to which soldiers who have seen service are appointed; the salary is fifty thousand reis a year and in three years it brings in from about two thousand five hundred to three thousand cruzados net. The Alcaide do mar and Meirinho of the fortress has a salary of twenty-nine thousand reis a year. It can be given to a serving soldier, but it brings little more than normal adequate maintenance.
