_ 243 _ In the same year (1585) The Third Ecclesiastical Council of the Goa region issued a decree, concerning the alliance that should not exist with the Jews, Goa, in 1585:(41) Decree: 15 The Council is informed that in the city of Cochin and in Ormuz and other places Decree 1 of the first Council, which prohibits communication with Jews, is not observed as it should be, but that they are leased houses within the city, from which arise some vexations to our holy religion. It therefore orders that no Christian of whatsoever status or condition should lease houses to Jews within the city and among Christians, on pain of a fine of one hundred cruzados; and that they should not allow them inside their houses on pain of a fine of fifty pardaos.
