_ 259 _ ٢. Name-i Humayun Defterleri.- Royal letters-1111 to 1313 (1699-1700 to 1895-6). ٣. Muqtaza Defterleri.- Rulings from the legal department on both internal and external matters thirty-five volumes, 1284 to 1330 (1867-8 to 1911-2). ٤. Kilise Defterleri.- Non-Muslim places of worship, with deeds of foundation and detailed descriptions-seven volumes, 1285 to 1340 (1868-9 to 1921-2). For the period 1125 to 1285 (1713 to 1868-9) a list of references to the relevant documents in the Mühimme Defterleri is available. In addition to these and other series of defters there is the vast mass of documents (evraq), ranging from Khatt-i Humayuns to odd notes and minutes. Only a very small proportion of these has as yet been catalogued or even examined. There are three Tasnifs (classifications), due to Ali Emiri, Mu’allim Cevdet, and Ibnülemin. The first is chronological and is arranged by reigns from ‘Osman to ‘Abdülmejid. It consists of sixty-one bundles.
