_ 179 _ Episodes of the year 1501 In the year 1501, a peace treaty was signed between the King of Cannanore and Dom Vasco da Gama. This came in a letter from the ruler of Cannanore to D. Manuel I:(7) Coteleri was the King of Cannanore with whom D. Vasco da Gama signed a peace in the year 1502 and to whom he sent his ambassador whom Pedro Alvarez Cabral had brought in his ship from Portugal in 1501. D. Vasco da Gama left Gonçalo Gil Barbosa as factor of Cannanore, and Sebastião Alvares as scrivener. See Chronicles of King D. Manuel Part I pp. 67 & 68.
