_ 194 _ captains, who are mentioned in the original documents of the expedition, some authors add those of Peró Dinis de Setúbal, Cristóvão de Távora and Simão de Alcáçova(A) of whom we have not found any trace. Here we must follow Castanheda and distinguish on the one hand Manuel Teles de Vasconcelos, of the fleet of Lopo Soares, who remained at Cochin, took part in the burning of the port of Kollam in November 1505 (Cast. II/18, p. 252) and did not leave India until 26th November 1505 (ibid. II/21, p.256); on the other Manuel Teles Barreto, captain of the "Rey Fequeno", which left Lisbon in April 1506 (ibid., 11/30, p.277; Barros, II/1-1, p.6). On the family of Manuel Teles de Vasconcelos, cf. J. Aubin, Duarte Galvao, in Arquivos do Centro Cultural Portugues, 9 (1975), on p. 49, table II. On Lopo de Abreu and Pero Afonso de Aguiar, cf. Lagoa, Grandes e humildes na epopeia portuguesa do Oriente, seculos XV, XVI e XVII, Lisbon, 1942-43, vol. I, p.214-217 and II, p. 162- 170. On Tristao da Silva, cf. Fr. Felix Lopes, in Studia, 37 (1973) P. 34-35.
