They promised to do so, both because they were good friends of his and because these people are very happy to receive presents, Lourenco de Brito immediately wrote to the Viceroy asking him for reinforcements and in the meantime told our men not to go to any Arab town or village. When the message reached the Viceroy he was busy with the trial of the captains who had advised Don Lourenco not to fight against Maymame, and seeing how much they needed his help he at once dispatched Don Lourenco to Cannanore. He was accompanied by many noblemen and other men and the Viceroy told him to obey Lourenco de Brito in everything, whether the latter wished him to stay at the fortress or to return. When Don Lourenco arrived in Cannanore, Lourenco de Brito was very upset with him for coming to spend the winter there (the reason for Lourenco de Brito's annoyance seems to be that this would be dangerous for Don Lourenco's ship), and wished he would return to Cochin, Don Lourenco told him of his father's orders, saying that he therefore wished to obey him and return to Cochin.
