_ 215 _ Chapter: 46 When the King of Cannanore saw that it was impossible to harm our men while they fetched water, he asked the Arabs to advise him on how he was to do this. They suggested he should attack the stockade continually, which he did to no avail, because many of his men died on the field. As a result, the enemy began to be afraid of going near the stockade and would not attack it, no matter how much the king ordered them to do so. For twenty days they stopped raiding it. However, the king was not upset, because the Arabs thought of a plan to capture it. In the meantime, he prepared for the battle that was to take place and as a result of which he expected to a capture the stockade. He wanted to let his men rest and told them to withdraw, together with the artillery. When the captain saw that instead of attacking, they retreated, he was very surprised and suspected the enemy were up to something. On the other hand, he thought that if this were the case the Prince of Cannanore would have warned. Nonetheless he considered that he was related to the king and that his desire to save the monarch might be stronger than his friendship for himself. Besides they hadn't seen each other (the captain and the prince that is) for two months and he wasn't sure if he could trust him.
