_ 412 _ (Castanheda 1iv II Cap LXIII) That the King of Ormuz secure from the hand of the Captain in Chief the Kingdom and Signority of Ormuz from which he the Captain in chief had dispossessed him by force of arms. And that he should render himself a vassal of the King of Portugal by paying him from henceforth: as a tribute annually twenty thousand xerafins, each xerafin of the value of one cruzado. And that for the expenses inurred by that war and likewise to Depay the men’s pay which the Captain in chief brought with him, the King of Ormuz would give him at once five thousand xerafins each one of the same value as the order. And that the King of Ormuz would give a site outside the city at the choice of he Captain in chief for the erection knew it well, that from the time when Afonso de Albuquerque made the said contract, of which mention has been made there has elapsed four or five years, more or less, there went to the said city and fortress of Ormuz Antonio de Salvanha, as Captain in Chief of a fleet, and he agreed up on with the said King turuxag, that, on account of the friendship with the King our Lord felt towards him, and by reason of the many expenses incurred by the large fleet which the senhor made and carried in these parts, that the said King turuxaa should give a further sum of 10000 xerafins each and every year, decides the 15000 which he formally gave, so that all told it should reach 25000 xerafins all this the King agreed to and he conceded in this that he should pay it tribute to the King our Lord Don Manuel who reigned at time, and which were always collected.
