_ 431 _ The king in person took part in the battle. Choichatar, who was regent and governor of this land (for the king was a boy of twelve whom he held by the hand) this Choichatar and the king in a galleass began to attack our ship and galleons and to block their way and turned back some of our men. They came amongst our galleys. Because so many of their men threw themselves into the sea (which was a fearsome thing), and because our men in the skiffs killed numerous men in the water, and many drowned owing to the weight of the armour they wore, in truth there were men amongst us who killed eighty moors in the sea that day. And some of their ships, which remained beached, were attacked by the men aboard our skiffs, and their crews threw themselves into the sea and were drowned, and others were killed by blows from the lances of our men, who killed them even in the sea, in such a way that few escaped. As for the galleon, which bore the governor of the kingdom, when it was near land, its men threw themselves out of the galleon, leaving behind many weapons, swords inlaid with silver and the other rich things which they take to war. Aboard were many noblemen, but some amazingly escaped, including Choichatar, the Governor. Although we had conquered this armada, we followed certain galleons that were fleeing to reach the mainland
