This is in the Deccan Kingdom and lies at 18 degrees to the north, next to a rocky mountain-range which stretches along a beautiful river. The river meets the sea at this point, and its width is equal to that of a cannon’s range of fire. The city itself extends into the interior as far as the distance between the Gate of the Cross in Lisbon and the limekilns at Boavista; and its width along the shore is equal to the distance between the Ribeira Gate and the Gate of St Anthony in Lisbon.
