_ 173 _ at this point that the letter from the King of Ormuz arrived; the author of Tarihi-i Mahmud-Sahi, without reproducing it in full, summarizes in the following terms:(A) The European infidels have, at sea, thrown the ship of evil into the whirlpool of infamy. They have raised the hand of supremacy and domination over numerous ports. Never ceasing to light the fire of rebellion, they inflame the Muslims in its flames. It is thus that the town of Djaroun, a place of safety for believers,(B) became the object of their evil covetousness. As they had come quite close, the vali of Ormuz filled a number of ships with valiant men and sent them to offer resistance and to confront them. When they met, at the slightest attack of the wicked and infidel pyrotechnicians (atisbaran), the army of Djaroun was shattered by the stone of dispersion and the wind of flight scattered every ship. The impious infidels entered the port of Djaroun, the vali of which asked for mercy. This town having become the focus of God’s wrath, the infidels achieved complete victory and domination.
