_ 211 _ our seeing Portuguese, our subjects and compatriots so far from our kingdoms, almost four thousand leagues away, being under his rule. As we receive in all these matters so many favours from Our Lord God, and such great praise and fame are achieved by our kingdoms, we hope each day that He will grant us His favours and help in those very kingdoms. We enjoin and command you to make a solemn procession in that city, coming together with its people, so that in the most devoted manner possible thanks and praise be given to Our Lord for such great mercies and benefits as he bestows upon us and our kingdoms in these matters, praying to him that since he places the affairs of those parts of India in our hands he may continue through His favour to preserve and help us so that from those parts there may come such praise and increase of the Christian religion and of His Holy Catholic Faith as we desire.
