At this time Governor Afonso de Albuquerque gave orders for the bar at Goa to be sounded, for the king had given the marshal instructions to do so, this was so that they might know what ships would be able to enter it. After the bar had been sounded no further steps were taken the men who were with the Viceroy at Cannanore mocked this continually and sang songs about it; for the capture of Goa was deemed impossible, since it was large and powerful.
