While the Captain-in-Chief was waiting for Diogo de Mello, Duarte de Faria arrived in a boat and told him that Diogo de Mello had been deceived by some Moors who had gone to show him a zambuco which was close at hand, laden with merchandise. He went with them in a boat with ten men, against everybody’s advice. The Moors took him to Julfar’s fleet, which was on its way to Larak, where it was now, and they killed everyone. The Captain-in-Chief was furious, and at once sent Dom Antonio in the brig, and Jorge da Silveira in his boat to join Martim Coelho and Diogo de Mello’s vessel, in which Dom Antonio was to go and fight against Julfar’s fleet.
