_ 87 _ Malabar ships began to leave from midnight onwards, and our captains gave orders for their anchors to be raised and prepared to leave. The Malabar ships were not to make any noise, there were to be no greetings and farewells, so that the Roumeliotes might not hear them. However, this was unavoidable, because Pero Barreto, who was very brave, did not wish to leave his anchor behind (by cutting it off) and went to lift it in his skiff to do this he had to go near Mirocem’s ship, and while he did so the enemy shot many arrows and threw missiles at him.
