For his part he would take the same oath on behalf of the King of Ormuz and would swear obedience to the King of Portugal and to the governor, who acted in his place. They both swore to this upon their own holy books, and they signed a document drawn up by the secretary for the purpose. When this had been completed the governor gave Raix Noradim a brocade cabaya, which he put on at once, and placed a necklace around his neck, which was made of large golden beads and contained 100 cruzados; he also gave his nephew another cabaya, made of crimson satin with gold buttons, and to Acen Ale he gave 50 cruzados and five 'covados' of scarlet cloth. He gave Nicolau Ferreira an enamel and gold necklace, which he was to present to the king, and to Acem Ale a flag with the royal arms of Portugal, equally for the king, which he was to hoist over his residence, as a sign of peace and obedience. Nicolau Ferreira went ashore with Raix Noradim, and the flag was hoisted amid joyous celebrations, whilst the king's entire body of artillery fired gun-salutes, to which our artillery responded in like manner. This was done at noon on the last day of March, which was the eve of Palm Sunday.
