_ 342 _ When this King went to war with another neighboring King, he was killed, his children taken prisoner and his city captured. The other King who was King of Turkey also waged war with his brother, another neighboring King. They were both together in battle and the King of Turkey was killed and his land taken. On arriving at the city of Aradabil, his brother ordered the dead King’s children, who were imprisoned there, to be released. Sheikh Ismael had two hundred men. When they saw him captured, they all fled and wandered around Persia begging for alms to keep themselves alive. On learning that he was free, they all gathered together and returned to him. He received them and immediately discharged each one to his own region so as to have people wearing the emblem of the scarlet caps; he would make them into efficient armed groups, and they would fight for his religion. Spread in this way throughout many regions, these two hundred men travelled through many lands and gathered numerous people who adopted the emblem. Several days later, forty thousand fighting men assembled, with whose help Sheikh Ismael soon conquered the Kingdom of Paivan and, because of the sincerity that he showed, he attracted many more people to his side. With this, he conquered Persia and made himself its Lord and master.
