_ 379 _ at the foot, of the mountain-range on the frontier of the kingdom yields 1,000 xerafins. The villages of Rudoreh, Barakoh, Bieben, Darduzeh, Dajaizah and Keringon, which is in Moghistan, 4,500 xerafins, and taxes on camels sold there 1,500. Apart from all these there are the ports of Kuzbah, which yield 300, Chakom 750, Braini 1,000, Dukat 800, Agon 1,500. These last two ports receive camel-trains from Persia. In this way the territories in Persia yield 17,700 xerafins which together with the portion of Arabia and the city itself give a total revenue of 88,078 xerafins. This excludes what the islands used to yield because they now spend almost as much as they earn. This was the case in the year 1515, and in earlier years the situation had been much the same. In order to give an idea of the way of life of these princes, we shall relate how these revenues were spent, even in trivial or vain ways. We shall give this account in leques, which is a numeral in use in those lands, and also in xerafins, azars, candiis and dinars, which is a coin. This is in order not to depart from the account we obtained of these matters, taken from the ledgers of the treasury of the Kings of Ormuz. A leque consists of fifty xerafins, and a xerafin is worth three hundred reals in our currency.
