_ 88 _ Item: One, Khwaja Bekin, who lives in Calicut but was born in Ormuz and is faithful to Your Majesty sent this letter secretly to Lourenço de Brito. Item: The Sabaio who is ruler of Goa, wrote to the King of Cannanore in great secrecy telling him that he wanted to gather arms against you but wanted to know whether he would help and support him or whether he wished to maintain peace with Your Majesty. The King of Cannanore replied that he recognised the Sabaio was a great captain but reminded him that he had destroyed his ships and caused him much loss of life. The bearer of the Sabaio's letter was his Chaplain. He came with powers from his master to make reparation for the damage he had brought to the King of Cannanore. Lourenço de Brito never found out what the King of Cannanore's reply was or whether the Chaplain went secretly to Calicut from there. Item: On the subject of the peace that had been made with Afonso de Albuquerque, Lourenço de Brito sent an honourable Moor from Ormuz who lives in Cannanore and is called Khwaja Amin, to the King of Ormuz but on the way, he ran into some of the Sabaio's ships. They found the letter sent by Lourenço de Brito and took the Moor to Goa where the Sabaio wanted to have his head chopped off but because he was an honourable man they held him prisoner
