_ 178 _ f15v The rice was distributed by Cosme Nunes, purser of the ship, supervised by me, clerk of the ship. Written today in the port of Ormuz on 11 June 1520. Item: From 11 June, when the ship reached the port of Ormuz until the 29th of that month, when it was dismasted, I always gave one hundred and ten persons rice to eat which was carried according to orders, giving each seaman one pari per day. Ten of these paris sake one Goa mão, according to the factor’s standing orders, which, at eleven mãos per day come to nine candins, eighteen mãos. These were used by Paris Corvinel, factor of the ship, and were entered as outgoings by me, Cristóvão Afonso, the ship’s clerk today 29 June 1520. 9 candins 18 mãos so far 72 candins 4 1/2 mão. 16 Item: The said Paris Corvinel, Captain and factor of the said ship, gave twenty men, who received wages after the ship had been dismasted for pumping and for looking after her, two mãos of giraçal rice because there was no other in the ship, one pari each every day, as had been the custom before. They were given giraçal rice because there was no other in the ship and it had been delivered to the factor.
