_ 64 _ Salman Rex arrived at Jidda. Mirocem was afraid of remaining in the city for fear of being taken for treason. Afterwards, Salman was made lord of Jidda, soon raising the Turkish flag, and he wrote a letter to Sharif Parcate asking him to send Mirocem to him, for if not he would not be a friend of the Turks, this man having done great disservice. And he was ordered to be taken prisoner, and those bringing him were advised that they should kill him on the way to Jidda, which he did. After this it was said that Salmani Rex wanted to go to Cairo to an obedience to the Turk. It was also said that he was very short of men, having not more than four or five hundred Turks, and that Jidda was weak with a low wall and a small fort which could easily be taken.
